  • Drawing inspiration from PM Modi’s model of good governance, citizen convenience made a priority: Minister A.K. Sharma

Lucknow: Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma laid the foundation for the state’s fifth modern civic facility centre, to be built by the Nagar Palika Parishad in Mau district. The centre, to be constructed at a cost of around Rs 10 crore, will be completed in about a year and a half. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Sharma said the purpose of the civic facility centre is not merely to construct a building, but to make municipal services available to ordinary citizens at a single location in a simple, transparent, digital and time-bound manner.

Minister Sharma said that after Ayodhya, Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur and Lucknow, Mau is now getting the state’s fifth modern civic facility centre. The centre, he said, will become an important hub of modern urban services for the citizens of Mau. He added that the state government’s continuous endeavour is to ensure that people living in cities get better facilities and are not forced to make unnecessary rounds of government offices for their small tasks.

Sharma said the civic facility centre would allow work related to birth certificates, death certificates, house tax, water tax and various municipal schemes and services to be carried out at a single location. About 18 counters for citizen services will be set up on the centre’s first floor, where matters related to various services will be disposed of quickly. He said that once fully ready, the centre would be developed in line with the concept of ‘One Day Governance’, so that citizens can access the maximum number of services in the minimum possible time.

Sharma said the civic facility centre would not be limited to government services alone. Plans are also in place to develop a public facility centre, a library, and food and yoga-related facilities on the ground floor of the building. He said the centre would be designed so that citizens can spend time there not just for their government work, but also for study, health and other useful activities.

He said this citizen-centric service model draws inspiration from the good-governance and public-service efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat. The Prime Minister’s vision, he said, has been to ensure that the real benefits of government schemes and services reach the person standing at the very end of the line with ease. This same spirit, he said, is being carried forward through urban services in Uttar Pradesh under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

As part of the programme, on the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Minister Sharma offered floral tribute at his portrait and paid respectful homage, recalling his contribution to nation-building and good governance.

The programme was attended by former MLA Vijay Rajbhar, former MLA Umesh Pandey, former district president Nupur Agarwal, officials of the Nagar Palika Parishad, public representatives, senior party workers, and a large number of citizens.
