- District Magistrate’s written permission made mandatory before orders concerning Gram Sabha land
- 18 Vantangiya villages of Maharajganj excluded from the consolidation process
Lucknow: Consolidation Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh, Dr Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod, ordered a review of orders being passed by consolidation authorities in cases under disposal. The review brought to light that in certain cases, attempts had been made to grab valuable Gram Sabha land through the judicial process, with cases being disposed of on the basis of fabricated orders.
To address this situation, written directions have been issued to district magistrates, district deputy directors of consolidation, and other consolidation authorities across the state, stating that transfer applications or case files involving Gram Sabha interests, where transferring a case to another district becomes unavoidable, must first receive prior approval from the district magistrate or district deputy director of consolidation. Similarly, written prior approval from the district magistrate or district deputy director of consolidation has now been made mandatory before implementing any orders related to Gram Sabha land.
It has also been directed that if any attempt to grab Gram Sabha land comes to notice, a First Information Report (FIR) must be lodged against those responsible, and a proposal for disciplinary action must be sent to the Directorate.

Separately, the District Magistrate, Maharajganj, had sent a proposal to exclude 18 Vantangiya villages of the district from the consolidation process under Section 6(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Consolidation of Holdings Act, since consolidation was not feasible in these villages. Accordingly, in public interest, the 18 villages were excluded from the consolidation process through a notification dated August 12, 2026.
