Ahmedabad: The 138th meeting of the Offshore Security Coordination Committee (OSCC) was held in Ahmedabad on May 21 under the leadership of Paramesh Sivamani to assess and strengthen security arrangements protecting India’s offshore installations and critical maritime energy infrastructure.
The high-level meeting focused on improving maritime domain awareness, enhancing inter-agency coordination and strengthening surveillance and emergency response systems to address evolving offshore security challenges. Officials also discussed emerging threats linked to modern warfare, including the growing use of unmanned systems and drone-enabled attacks in maritime environments.
Particular attention was given to expanding offshore exploration activities in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands region, which has become increasingly important from both strategic and energy-security perspectives.
Representatives from several major national agencies and departments participated in the discussions, including the Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Officials from intelligence, shipping, hydrography and state police departments also attended the meeting.

The committee reviewed measures aimed at improving coordination between defence, intelligence and civil agencies involved in offshore security operations. Discussions additionally covered the importance of maintaining rapid response capabilities and strengthening monitoring systems for vital offshore assets.
The meeting concluded with participating agencies reaffirming their collective commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of India’s offshore energy infrastructure and critical maritime installations amid a changing regional and global security environment.
