Dhaka: ISKCON Bangladesh General Secretary Charu Chandra Das has said that ISKCON does not take responsibility for any statement or activity of Chinmay Krishna Das. Announcing this at a press conference in Dhaka, he said that Chinmay Prabhu has been expelled recently. This statement came at a time when the controversy deepened after the arrest of Hindu leader Chinmay Krishna Das in Bangladesh. Das was arrested on Monday in Chittagong for making inflammatory statements against Bangladesh and a case of sedition was registered against him. After his arrest, ISKCON supporters and people of the minority community started protests in Bangladesh.
After the arrest of Chinmay Krishna Das, protests spread in Bangladesh, after which the demand to ban ISKCON also intensified. A petition was also filed in the Bangladesh High Court to ban ISKCON. However, the High Court refused to ban ISKCON. The court dismissed the case of banning the activities of ISKCON, saying that it cannot be taken suo motu without concrete evidence.
After the High Court’s decision, Radharaman Das, vice-president of ISKCON’s Kolkata branch, called it a victory of justice. He said, “An attempt was being made to ban us, but the court rejected it. This is a relief for millions of devotees.”
At the same time, India on Tuesday expressed deep concern over Das’ arrest and denial of bail and urged Bangladesh to ensure the safety of Hindus and all other minority groups.
Apart from this, a group of lawyers of the Bangladesh Supreme Court on Wednesday sent a legal notice to the Bangladesh government demanding a ban on ISKCON and calling it a radical organization.
