Ahead of Convocation, Rohilkhand University to Get a Fragrant Miyawaki Garden — Journalists Plant the First Saplings

Miyawaki Garden

BAREILLY: With the convocation ceremony coming up on August 4, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University in Bareilly kicked off an unusual initiative today to make its campus a little greener — and a lot more fragrant. A garden is being planted using the Miyawaki method just inside the university’s newly built Golden Jubilee Gate, and journalists from various newspapers and news channels were the first to get their hands dirty, planting fragrant Madhukamini saplings right at the entrance to mark the start of the drive.

Once the garden is fully grown, visitors will be greeted by the scent of flowers the moment they step onto campus — giving the university, officials hope, a more natural and peaceful feel overall. Alongside the journalists, teachers, staff and university officials also took part, planting a variety of saplings of their own as part of the environmental push.

A message from Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh said:

“It’s a genuine pleasure that this meaningful environmental initiative has taken shape at our university right before an occasion as important as convocation. This Miyawaki garden won’t just add to the beauty of our campus — it reflects our commitment to biodiversity and ecological balance. I’m deeply grateful to all the journalists, teachers, officials and staff who contributed to this worthwhile effort. Let’s all work together to build our university into a green, clean campus.”

The event wrapped up with light refreshments for everyone present. Also in attendance were Ashish Dixit, Sanjeev Gambhir, Desh Deepak Gangwar, Parmeet Singh Malhotra, Prof. J.N. Maurya, Prof. S.K. Pandey, Prof. Trilochan Sharma, Prof. Akhtar Hussain, along with a large gathering of journalists, teachers, officials and staff.
