GONDA — A promising young cricketer from Gonda’s Sadar tehsil, Lakshya Rai Chandani, was felicitated on Tuesday by Divisional Commissioner Durga Shakti Nagpal in recognition of his standout achievements on the cricket field. Presenting him with a citation of appreciation, the Commissioner wished him a bright future and urged him to keep working hard with the goal of one day playing for India’s senior cricket team.
The 17-year-old received his early schooling at Raghukul Vidya Peeth Academy. He learned the fundamentals of the game under his first coach, Surendra Kumar, and today serves as vice-captain of the India Under-19 team. He has also represented Uttarakhand in the Ranji Trophy.
Lakshya’s journey in cricket has been an inspiring one. He was picked for the Under-16 team at just 15, and consistent, impressive performances since then have carried him all the way to the vice-captaincy of India’s Under-19 side. He was named Man of the Match for a strong showing in the Vijay Merchant Trophy, and has gone on to deliver standout performances across several tournaments, bringing recognition to Gonda, Uttar Pradesh and the country as a whole.
During the felicitation, the Commissioner also praised Lakshya’s father, Rajesh Rai Chandani, his mother, Lakshmi Rai Chandani, and other family members who were present. She noted that behind every successful athlete lies the sacrifice, support and constant encouragement of mentors and parents, and commended the family’s dedication and hard work.
Meeting with Lakshya personally, the Commissioner encouraged him to set his sights on playing for India’s senior team and to keep progressing with discipline and dedication. Also present on the occasion were Additional Commissioner (Judicial) Rajesh Kumar Yadav, along with Lakshya’s coach and other family members.
