Lucknow: In a significant step towards strengthening the electricity distribution system and ensuring uninterrupted power supply in Varanasi, Energy Minister A.K. Sharma inaugurated two advanced 24×7 Emergency Electricity Vans in the city. The initiative aims to drastically reduce restoration time during power outages and improve the overall reliability of the power network.
Dedicated 24×7 Response System
The newly launched special vehicles are equipped with modern safety equipment and essential tools and tackles (T&P kits) designed to handle all kinds of electrical faults. To ensure round-the-clock operations, dedicated teams will work in three shifts of eight hours each day, with each shift comprising trained supervisors, linemen, and technical support staff.
Key Functions of the Emergency Vans
The 24×7 emergency response units will play a crucial role in maintaining and restoring the electricity infrastructure. Their major responsibilities include:
• HT Maintenance and Transformer Replacement:
Immediate repair of high-tension (HT) line faults, breakdown restoration, and swift replacement of transformers and cross arms when required.
• Underground and AB Cable Fault Detection:
Rapid identification and rectification of faults in underground cables using advanced diagnostic equipment, along with replacement of damaged aerial bundled (AB) cables and conductors.
• Electrical Pole Maintenance:
Straightening or replacing damaged or tilted poles caused by accidents or natural calamities to ensure safety and stability of the network.

• Tree Pruning and Line Clearance:
Trimming tree branches obstructing overhead lines to prevent short circuits and ensure safe power transmission.
• Routine Line Surveys:
Regular inspection of electrical lines to proactively identify potential faults and resolve them before breakdowns occur.
• Emergency Restoration Services:
Immediate deployment to any affected area to restore power supply at the earliest in case of outages.
Minister’s Statement
Speaking on the occasion, Energy Minister A.K. Sharma said that the government is committed to providing better, reliable, and uninterrupted electricity services to consumers. He added that the introduction of these multipurpose emergency vans, along with proactive line inspection systems, will not only enhance the lifespan of electrical infrastructure but also significantly reduce power interruptions faced by the public.
The initiative is being seen as a major step towards modernizing the electricity distribution system in Varanasi and improving consumer satisfaction through faster and more efficient fault resolution mechanisms.
