Bareilly: Avinash Singh chaired a review meeting of the District Road Safety Committee at the Collectorate auditorium and directed officials to take effective measures to curb the rising number of road accidents on highways.
Expressing concern over the increase in highway mishaps, the District Magistrate instructed authorities to identify accident-prone zones and ensure heightened vigilance in such areas. He emphasized strict enforcement of traffic rules to improve road safety across the district.
The District Magistrate also directed officials to expedite the repair of damaged roads to reduce the chances of accidents. He further instructed that speed breakers should be constructed on a priority basis at locations where they are required but currently absent.
During the meeting, he ordered a special enforcement drive against overloaded vehicles, vehicles involved in illegal mining activities, and vehicles operating without number plates. Stressing the importance of awareness, he called for extensive public campaigns on road safety, particularly targeting young people to educate them about traffic regulations.

Appealing to all officials, the District Magistrate urged them to follow traffic rules themselves while driving and encourage others to do the same. He also instructed that ambulance contact numbers must be prominently displayed at all toll plazas to ensure immediate medical assistance in case of road accidents.
The District Magistrate took serious note of complaints regarding irregularities in the driving licence issuance process and directed officials to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate (City) Avinash Tripathi, Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Mohd. Akmal Khan, Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department Bhagat Singh, along with other concerned officials.
