Tel Aviv: Arab Summit: Consensus on Gaza Plan The draft statement from the Arab summit has officially adopted Egypt’s proposed plan for the reconstruction of Gaza. The summit has called upon the international community and financial institutions for immediate cooperation to make Gaza habitable once again. The primary objective of this summit is to counter the proposals put forth by former U.S. President Donald Trump, which included gaining control over Gaza and relocating the Palestinian population to Egypt and Jordan.
Arab Summit: The Proposed Plan Additionally, the plan aims to address Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies, who signaled the end of the ceasefire and the resumption of hostilities. The proposed Arab plan outlines a three-phase reconstruction strategy for Gaza, to be implemented over five years. In the first phase, spanning two years, an estimated $20 billion will be allocated to construct 200,000 residential units. The initial six months will focus on clearing debris and setting up temporary housing facilities.
The second phase, extending over the next two and a half years, involves the construction of an additional 200,000 residential units and the development of an airport in Gaza. The total estimated cost for the complete reconstruction is around $53 billion. Under Egypt’s proposal, an administrative support mission will be established to replace the Hamas-led government in Gaza.
Arab Summit: Call to Halt Demolitions The mission’s goal is to facilitate humanitarian aid and accelerate the rebuilding of the war-torn region. Additionally, Egypt and Jordan will jointly train Palestinian police forces to enhance security in Gaza. The plan urges Israel to immediately halt settlement expansion, land acquisitions, and the demolition of Palestinian homes. Furthermore, the issue of banned weapons will be addressed under a clear framework and a credible political process.
The draft statement also mentions that an international conference on Gaza’s reconstruction will be held later this month in Cairo. The initiative seeks to protect Palestinian rights and ensure regional stability while countering the recent proposals by former U.S. President Trump.
