VIJAYAWADA: The fifth edition of the Andhra Premier League (APL) is set to usher in a new chapter for cricket in Andhra Pradesh, with organizers introducing an expanded format aimed at taking the sport to a wider audience across the state. The month-long tournament, which began on June 9, will run through June 30 and is expected to provide a valuable platform for emerging cricketers to showcase their talent.
Addressing the media at the Andhra Cricket Association headquarters in Vijayawada, ACA President and Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, popularly known as Chinni, said extensive preparations had been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the competition. He emphasized that the league is designed to strengthen grassroots cricket while creating opportunities for young players to compete in a professional environment.
A major feature of this year’s edition is the decision to host matches across three different cities. Organizers believe the move will help expand the game’s reach and encourage greater participation from cricket enthusiasts throughout Andhra Pradesh.
Seven teams will compete in the tournament. The opening phase is being held in Visakhapatnam from June 9 to June 14, followed by matches in Kadapa from June 17 to June 21. The final stage of the competition will take place in Mangalagiri between June 24 and June 30, with both semi-finals and the championship final scheduled at the venue.
League officials view the expanded format as an important step in developing cricket infrastructure and creating stronger pathways for talented players. The Andhra Cricket Association has placed special emphasis on identifying and nurturing homegrown talent, with the long-term goal of helping more players from the state progress to national-level competitions.

Highlighting recent successes, Chinni pointed to the selection of Guntur cricketer Rasheed for the India-A squad as evidence of the growing opportunities available to Andhra Pradesh players. He noted that such achievements demonstrate the effectiveness of the state’s cricket development initiatives and provide inspiration for aspiring youngsters.
Beyond competition, the Andhra Premier League is expected to play a significant role in strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s reputation as a cricketing destination. By taking matches to multiple regions and creating a broader talent pool, organizers hope the tournament will contribute to the sport’s sustained growth across the state.
With teams ready to begin their campaigns and fans eager for the action, the 2026 Andhra Premier League promises to be one of the most ambitious editions yet, combining competitive cricket with a vision for long-term development and wider community engagement.
