Gonda: With the water level of the Ghaghara River continuing to rise and the threat of flooding increasing, the Gonda district administration has stepped up its preparedness measures to minimise potential damage and ensure timely relief for vulnerable communities.
As part of the ongoing preparedness drive, Chief Revenue Officer Rinki Jaiswal and newly appointed Karnailganj Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kumar Satyamjit, accompanied by the district disaster management expert, carried out an extensive field inspection of flood-prone areas on Wednesday to assess the readiness of relief and rescue operations.
The officials visited the vulnerable villages of Nakhara, Ailiparsauli and Baba Mathiya, where they reviewed the ground situation, evaluated the availability of relief arrangements and assessed administrative preparedness for any emergency arising from possible flooding.
During the inspection, the officers interacted with field personnel and reviewed the contingency measures in place. They instructed officials to remain on high alert and ensure that relief materials, evacuation plans and rescue resources are fully prepared so that immediate assistance can be provided if floodwaters threaten inhabited areas.
The inspection also marked one of the first major field visits by SDM Kumar Satyamjit after assuming charge in Karnailganj. Since taking office, he has been actively touring the subdivision, closely monitoring conditions in flood-prone villages and supervising preparedness at the grassroots level. The administration aims to ensure that residents living in vulnerable riverbank settlements receive timely support and assistance in the event of flooding.
District authorities said continuous monitoring of the Ghaghara River is underway, with officials maintaining close surveillance over embankments and low-lying areas. Regular reviews of relief and rescue preparations are being conducted, and departments concerned have been directed to maintain coordination and remain ready for swift action should the flood situation worsen.
The district administration reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property through proactive planning, rapid response mechanisms and constant monitoring as the monsoon season progresses.
