Historical increase in women’s participation in MNREGA

Lucknow:  Under the leadership and guidance of  Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh,  Keshav Prasad Maurya, maximum participation of women is being ensured in the schemes of the Rural Development Department. New dimensions are being established by the Rural Development Department in the direction of women’s self-reliance and empowerment. This year, the active participation of women in the MNREGA scheme is the highest compared to other years. Women are becoming self-reliant by promoting the livelihood of rural women.

According to the information received from the Rural Development Department, a total of 8.70 crore man-days have been created under the MNREGA scheme in Uttar Pradesh in the current financial year 2024-25, out of which 3.78 crore are women, which is about 43.53 percent.

The participation of women under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MGNREGA) is continuously increasing in Uttar Pradesh. The participation of women in MNREGA was 33.57 percent in 2020-21, 37.25 percent in the year 2021-22, 37.87 percent in the year 2022-23, it increased to 42.26 percent in the year 2023-24 and in the current financial year 2024-25, this percentage has reached 43.53 so far, which is the highest percentage till date.

Commissioner, Rural Development  G.S. Priyadarshi said that instructions are being given continuously to increase the participation of women in the MNREGA scheme. Necessary guidelines are also issued from time to time to the officers posted in the field. By linking them with the MNREGA scheme, work is being made available to more and more women.
