Gonda: The Gonda unit of the Congress observed the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi at the Congress Bhawan with a tribute meeting and discussion highlighting his contributions to India’s technological and social development.
The programme was organised under the direction of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Rai and Awadh Zone in-charge Abdul Hannan. The event was led by Gonda city Congress president and councillor Shahid Ali Qureshi.

The programme began with the garlanding of Rajiv Gandhi’s statue and the offering of floral tributes. Party leaders and workers recalled his contributions to Panchayati Raj, the communications revolution and youth empowerment.
Addressing the gathering, Shahid Ali Qureshi and media in-charge Shiv Kumar Dubey said Rajiv Gandhi had laid the foundation for a 21st-century India. They highlighted his efforts to expand the use of computers and strengthen Panchayati Raj institutions, saying these initiatives helped take development and technology closer to people in rural areas.

The leaders said Rajiv Gandhi’s vision remained relevant and called upon Congress workers to work towards strengthening national unity and development. They also pledged to take his ideals and contributions to people across the district.
A large number of party office-bearers and workers attended the programme, including Jaleel Khan, Syed Abdul Mujeeb, Ajay Rastogi, state secretary of the Congress Backward Classes Department, Nirmala Devi, Anees Nana, Vivekanand Shukla, Baby Mishra, Misbah Khan, Santosh Kumar Dubey, Zainul Abideen Khan, Hariram Verma and Tayyab Raini, among others.
The gathering concluded with tributes to Rajiv Gandhi and a reaffirmation by party workers to carry forward the values and development-oriented vision associated with his legacy.
