AIIMS Raebareli Holds Continuing Medical Education Programme on Viral Hepatitis

Raebareli: The Department of Microbiology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raebareli, in collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine and Public Health, successfully organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on viral hepatitis. The programme was aimed at updating healthcare workers on the latest developments in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Hepatitis B and C.

The event opened with a welcome address by Dr. Shefali Gupta, Head of the Department of Microbiology. This was followed by the formal inauguration by Dr. Amita Jain, Executive Director of AIIMS Raebareli, who stressed the need for ongoing medical education and effective prevention strategies to help eliminate viral hepatitis.

During the scientific sessions, Dr. Amita Jain delivered a lecture on the “National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme (NVHCP): Progress and Challenges.” A healthcare worker who had experienced a needle-stick injury also shared their personal account, underlining the importance of occupational safety and timely post-exposure management.

Also present at the event were Dr. Neeraj Kumari, Dean (Academics), and Dr. Neeraj Kumar Srivastava, Additional Medical Superintendent, both of whom addressed the participants. They spoke about the importance of CME programmes and emphasised the critical role healthcare workers play in preventing viral hepatitis, ensuring timely diagnosis, delivering effective treatment, and maintaining infection control.

Dr. Saurabh Paul spoke on the epidemiology and disease burden of blood-borne hepatitis, while Dr. Sweta Singh explained modern techniques used in the laboratory diagnosis of Hepatitis B and C. Dr. Nidhi Bhatnagar presented on the latest advances in diagnostics, and Dr. Manu Sharma gave a detailed talk on the pathogenesis and treatment of Hepatitis B and C. Dr. Mukesh Shukla shared key insights on post-exposure prophylaxis and infection prevention. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sweta Singh.
