Lucknow: Mohanlalganj Police have arrested a 67-year-old man for allegedly impersonating a landowner and using forged identity documents to facilitate fraudulent land transactions in Lucknow. The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into a suspected property fraud involving forged documents and fake sale deeds.
According to police, the case was registered following a complaint by Ashish Kumar Gupta, a resident of Sisendi village. The complainant alleged that several parcels of land recorded in the name of Suresh Kumar were fraudulently sold to other individuals using forged identity documents and fabricated credentials.
Police said sale deeds for one land parcel were executed in favour of Sanno Khan on November 20, 2024, while additional plots were allegedly transferred to Aman Jaiswal on February 27, 2026. Investigators found that the person posing as the landowner had used forged Aadhaar cards, different identity numbers and fabricated supporting documents to complete the transactions.
Based on the complaint, Mohanlalganj Police registered Case No. 275/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to cheating, forgery, impersonation and the use of forged documents.
During the investigation, police traced and arrested the alleged impersonator near the Bank of India branch in Sisendi village on July 26. Initially identifying himself as Suresh Kumar, the accused later disclosed his real identity as Harilal, son of the late Kera, a resident of Rastipur village in Azamgarh district.
During questioning, police said Harilal admitted that he had been persuaded by Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal of Sisendi to impersonate the original landowner in exchange for money. He allegedly stated that forged Aadhaar and PAN cards were prepared in the name of Suresh Kumar before he appeared before the Sub-Registrar’s office to execute the sale deeds.
According to investigators, Harilal told police he received ₹1.5 lakh for participating in the fraudulent transaction and later executed additional sale deeds in favour of Rajesh Jaiswal’s son Aman Jaiswal and another individual. He also allegedly admitted that the thumb impressions and signatures on the disputed documents were his.
Police said Harilal has been remanded to judicial custody. The investigation is continuing to collect evidence against the other named accused, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings.
The arrest was carried out by a team led by Sub-Inspector Anoop Kumar Singh and Head Constable Ravindra Kumar of Mohanlalganj Police Station.
