Man Arrested in Lucknow for Allegedly Exploiting Woman on False Promise of Marriage

Lucknow: Police in Lucknow have arrested a 25-year-old man accused of establishing a physical relationship with a woman on the false promise of marriage, threatening to circulate her photographs, and allegedly extorting money and a laptop from her.

According to officials from Gudamba Police Station, the case was registered on September 27, 2025, following a complaint lodged by the woman under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The accused, identified as Gaurav Verma, was alleged to have developed a relationship with the complainant by promising marriage. The complaint further stated that he later threatened to make her photographs viral and allegedly took ₹10,000 and a laptop from her.

Police said the complainant accused the man of threatening her with dire consequences when she insisted on marriage and demanded the return of her laptop.

During the investigation, police teams carried out surveillance and intelligence-based tracking before arresting the accused on May 15, 2026, from the Behta area on Kursi Road following a tip-off from an informer.

Officials stated that the accused is currently residing in Paikramau village under Gudamba police station limits, while his native residence is in Kalupur village of Sitapur district.

The case is being investigated by Sub-Inspector Devendra Singh, and further legal proceedings are underway.

The arrest operation was carried out under the supervision of SHO Anjani Kumar Mishra along with Sub-Inspector Devendra Singh, Head Constable Avadhesh Kumar, and Constable Pradeep Kumar Sonkar.
