Lucknow: With Uttar Pradesh reeling under intense summer heat and rising temperatures, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed all district administrations to remain on high alert and ensure full preparedness to tackle the ongoing heatwave conditions across the state.
The alert comes after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert warning for severe heatwave conditions between May 19 and May 21. According to officials, temperatures in several districts are expected to rise by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius during this period, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Hospitals Asked to Activate Heat Stroke Preparedness
The Chief Minister has instructed district magistrates, health officials, electricity departments, and disaster relief agencies to remain in emergency response mode. Special emphasis has been placed on vulnerable districts likely to witness extreme weather conditions.
Government hospitals across the state have been directed to keep dedicated heat stroke wards operational and ensure adequate availability of medicines, beds, doctors, and emergency medical staff. Ambulance services have also been asked to remain fully active to respond quickly to emergencies related to heat exhaustion and dehydration.
Authorities have additionally been told to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply and make arrangements for drinking water facilities at public places, bus stands, markets, and other crowded areas.

Public Advised to Avoid Stepping Out During Peak Hours
Appealing directly to residents, CM Yogi urged people to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during the afternoon, when temperatures are expected to peak. Children, senior citizens, and those suffering from existing health conditions have been advised to take extra precautions.
The administration has recommended that people stay hydrated, wear light cotton clothing, cover their heads while stepping out, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
Maximum Caution Needed Till May 21
Weather officials have warned that several districts in Uttar Pradesh may experience extremely severe heatwave conditions over the next three days. In view of the forecast, the state government has ordered all districts to complete relief and emergency preparedness measures in advance to minimise health risks and ensure swift response in case of emergencies.
Officials said continuous monitoring of the situation is underway and district administrations have been instructed to remain prepared for any escalation in weather conditions.
