Ahead of New Year, Lucknow Police Book Over 1,000 for Public Drinking and Disorderly Conduct

Lucknow | In a major pre-festive crackdown, Lucknow Police booked 1,123 individuals on Monday night for drinking in public, creating nuisance, obstructing traffic, or violating public order. The intensified enforcement drive comes as Christmas celebrations begin and New Year approaches.

According to official data, police teams checked 3,073 people across the city’s five zones. Of these, over one-third were booked for various violations related to public drinking and disorderly behaviour.

  • North Zone: 484 checked | 115 booked

  • South Zone: 484 checked | 223 booked

  • East Zone: 709 checked | 330 booked

  • West Zone: 732 checked | 219 booked

Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Babloo Kumar said ensuring a safe and orderly environment was crucial ahead of the festive season. “With Christmas already here and New Year around the corner, the police must maintain strict vigilance to ensure public safety,” he noted.

Police Commissioner Amrendra Kumar Sengar had directed teams to step up patrolling, conduct surprise inspections, and maintain strong visibility in high-footfall areas. ACPs and SHOs across all zones carried out aggressive checks through the day and late evening.

Strict Stance on Public Misconduct

Commissioner Sengar reiterated that public drinking, hooliganism, and disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated. He warned that anyone disturbing peace, endangering safety, or obstructing traffic would face stringent legal action.

“Lucknow Police remains committed to ensuring a safe, dignified, and disciplined environment for all,” he added.

The crackdown is expected to continue as the city gears up for year-end festivities.
