UP Completes Rabi Season Preparations: 11 Lakh Quintals of Seeds and Ample Fertiliser Stock Ready for Farmers

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has made a major push to ensure timely availability of seeds and fertilisers for farmers ahead of the 2025–26 Rabi season. According to the Agriculture Department, the state has set a target of distributing 11.12 lakh quintals of certified seeds for major crops including wheat, barley, gram, pea, lentil, rapeseed, mustard and linseed. Of this, 81% of the required seeds have already been stocked, and 69% have reached farmers.

Focus on Pulses and Oilseeds

To promote pulse cultivation, the government had set a target of distributing 92,518 minikits, of which 76,258 have already reached fields. Out of the 2,26,400 minikits received from the Centre, 1,14,697 have been supplied.
For oilseeds—especially mustard and rapeseed—4.96 lakh minikits were allocated, with 4.92 lakh made available and 3.94 lakh already distributed to farmers. Under the National Mission on Edible Oils, 5,700 quintals of mustard seeds are being provided free of cost to encourage cluster-based farming and mixed cropping with sugarcane.

Fertiliser Stock Comfortable Across the State

Between October 1 and November 13, Uttar Pradesh ensured a robust supply of fertilisers:

  • Urea: 17.41 lakh tonnes
  • DAP: 10 lakh tonnes
  • NPK: 7.56 lakh tonnes
  • SSP: 4.09 lakh tonnes
  • MOP: 1.51 lakh tonnes

By November 14, the state continued to maintain strong availability:

  • Urea: 12.59 lakh tonnes
  • DAP: 3.76 lakh tonnes
  • NPK: 3.94 lakh tonnes
  • SSP: 2.65 lakh tonnes
  • MOP: 0.81 lakh tonnes

Both cooperative societies and private retailers have adequate stocks, ensuring that farmers will not face shortages during the peak sowing season.

Transparency Boosted Through POS Machines

From October 1 to November 13, 1.02 crore farmers purchased 16.82 lakh tonnes of fertilisers through POS machines. This has strengthened monitoring and improved transparency in the distribution system.

Crackdown on Black Marketing

Taking a tough stance against hoarding and black marketing, the government has intensified enforcement measures:

  • 27,315 raids conducted

  • 5,291 samples sent for testing

  • 1,005 licences suspended

  • 1,314 licences cancelled

  • 62 shops sealed

  • 192 FIRs registered

The state government has reiterated that stringent action will continue against anyone attempting to exploit farmers or disrupt agricultural supply chains.

With seeds and fertilisers sufficiently stocked and strict monitoring in place, Uttar Pradesh is poised for a smooth and productive Rabi season.
