Lucknow City Railway Station Becomes North Eastern Railway’s First Fully Women-Managed Station

Lucknow: In a landmark step towards women’s empowerment, the North Eastern Railway’s Lucknow Division has declared Lucknow City Railway Station as a fully women-operated station, making it the first and only station in the division where every operational, commercial, security, and technical responsibility is handled exclusively by women employees.

The initiative was formally inaugurated in the presence of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Gaurav Agarwal and Shruti Gupta, President of the Railway Women’s Welfare Organization, Lucknow. The ceremony began with the ribbon-cutting done by Vijay Lakshmi Pandey, the station’s senior-most railway employee and Chief Reservation Supervisor.

Speaking on the occasion, DRM Agarwal said, “The complete women-led management of Lucknow City Railway Station is a powerful symbol of ‘Nari Shakti – Rashtra Shakti’. Entrusting women with all key responsibilities—operations, ticketing, security, and technical management—reflects their ability, dedication, and confidence. It is a proud moment for the entire railway fraternity.”

At the station, roles such as Station Superintendent, Reservation Supervisors, Ticket Collectors, Railway Protection Force personnel, Point Women, Signal Maintainers, and housekeeping staff are now entirely managed by women. The station will function 24×7 under the leadership of these women employees, ensuring seamless services, enhanced passenger convenience, and heightened safety.

Following the inauguration, an ‘Amrit Samvad’ interactive session was held, where the DRM engaged with railway staff, passengers, and media representatives. Several senior officials, including officers from personnel, commercial, operations, and engineering departments, were present during the event.

The initiative not only marks a milestone for the Lucknow Division but also sets a strong example for women’s empowerment across the railway network. Officials said the move will inspire more women to pursue leadership roles and contribute confidently in diverse fields within the Railways.
