Women’s ODI World Cup: Heather Knight Makes Stunning Comeback

Indore: England captain Heather Knight staged a remarkable return to international cricket during the Women’s ODI World Cup, proving her mettle with a match-winning century against India. Just months ago, Knight doubted her inclusion in the World Cup squad due to being removed from captaincy earlier this year and struggling with a hamstring injury.

The 34-year-old veteran played her 300th international match with a sensational hundred, guiding England to a thrilling four-run victory, securing a spot in the knockout stage. Speaking after the match, Knight admitted, “I’m really happy. This year before the World Cup had been very bad for me, I won’t lie.”

Reflecting on her performance, she added, “I was determined to make the most of this opportunity, because getting here wasn’t easy. I gave my all to play a big innings and enjoyed every moment of my batting.”

Knight’s struggles began earlier in the year after a poor Ashes series, which led to her being stripped of the England captaincy. Just as she was regaining form, she sustained a right hamstring injury during a T20 match against the West Indies in May, casting doubt over her World Cup participation.

On the comeback, Knight said, “Honestly, the day I injured my hamstring was extremely tough for me. To be selected for the World Cup squad, contribute to a win, and now reach the semifinals—it’s an amazing experience for me.”

Her inspiring performance not only reaffirmed her place in the team but also boosted England’s confidence ahead of the crucial knockout stages of the tournament.
