Lucknow – A wanted criminal, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh, who was absconding in connection with the rape of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl in Lucknow, was killed in a police encounter late Thursday night. The accused had allegedly abducted the toddler from Alambagh Metro Station and sexually assaulted her.
The incident unfolded on Thursday night when the accused was apprehended by police during a routine check near the ACP Cantt office. He attempted to flee and opened fire on the police. In retaliatory firing, the accused sustained bullet injuries. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Brutal Crime Against a Two-and-a-Half-Year-Old

DCP Central Ashish Srivastava informed reporters that on June 5th, a couple had lodged a complaint at Alambagh police station stating that their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter had been raped. Following the registration of the case, five teams were formed to investigate. Based on CCTV footage, the accused was identified as Deepak Verma, a resident of Aishbagh, who was seen on a scooter. A reward of Rs 1 lakh had been declared for his arrest.
Accused Attempted to Flee
Police received information on Thursday night that the accused was attempting to flee. When Alambagh police tried to stop him, he opened fire, leading to a retaliatory firing by the police in which he was injured. He was admitted to KGMU for treatment, where doctors declared him dead during the course of treatment. The DCP stated that the accused was a railway vendor who sold water and also worked part-time for ‘Jagran’ tableaux. He also had an old case registered against him.
