Lucknow: In a significant step towards strengthening grassroots policing and ensuring faster law enforcement response in rural areas, Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar on Sunday inaugurated the newly built Chandapur Police Station in Rae Bareli district.
The move aligns with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s zero-tolerance policy towards crime and underscores the state government’s commitment to improving accessibility to policing in under-served regions.

A Strategic Expansion
The Chandapur Police Station has been carved out of the existing Maharajganj Police Station, covering a total of 23 villages—21 from Maharajganj and 2 from the Mill Area Police Station. The objective is to enhance surveillance, crime prevention, and emergency response in these areas, which have long required dedicated policing infrastructure.
Facilities Inspected, Saplings Planted
During the inauguration, DGP Prashant Kumar took a detailed tour of the facility, inspecting its key components including the lock-up area, Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) setup, and the malkhana (evidence room). He issued instructions to ensure operational efficiency and maintenance of the premises.
In a symbolic gesture promoting environmental consciousness, the DGP also planted saplings on the station campus.
Empowering Local Watchmen
In recognition of community-level vigilance efforts, DGP Kumar distributed bicycles, umbrellas, and sticks to 12 Gram Praharis (village watchmen). Calling them an essential part of the rural policing framework, he said,
“Gram Praharis are an integral part of our police network. Their role in local vigilance and crime prevention cannot be overlooked.”
Dignitaries Present
The event saw the presence of several senior officials, including:
-
SB Shiradkar, Additional Director General (ADG), Lucknow Zone
-
Tarun Gauba, Inspector General (IG), Lucknow Range
-
Harshita Mathur, District Magistrate, Rae Bareli
-

The inauguration marks another milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s ongoing efforts to decentralize policing and strengthen rural law enforcement with better resources, faster response mechanisms, and greater public participation.
