Back home, Indians pray for a Harris win

Chennai: At her ancestral village in Tamil Nadu, special prayers were organized for Vice President and Democrat Kamala Harris’s victory in the polls with only a few hours to go before the US presidential elections.

In the hamlet of ‘Thulasendrapuram’ in Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu, on Tuesday, Anushanath’s Anukragni organization organized the prayers.

Ballu, the organization’s founder, expressed optimism that Vice President Harris will prevail in the next elections.

“Kamala Harris plans to run for president of the United States. The elections will undoubtedly be won by her. To celebrate her win, we have planned a spectacular pooja. It would be a really joyous time for the whole state if she wins the elections,” he remarked.

Harris’ maternal grandfather, PV Gopalan, was born in the hamlet of Thulasendrapuram.

Tuesday (local time) is when the US elections will take place. Donald Trump, a Republican contender and former president, faces Vice President Harris.

Harris wants to make history by becoming the first female president of the United States, while Trump wants to return to the White House. According to every survey, the two contenders will face off in a very close battle.

Kamala, who was born to California parents Donald Harris and Shyamala Gopalan, rose through the ranks of the political establishment.

India is where Vice President Kamala Harris was born. Both her father and mother, who moved to the US, were Jamaican and Indian. She went to Howard University, a historically black institution in Washington, after being born in Oakland, California.

Following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential election due to growing worries about his age, especially following his dismal performance in the June debate with Donald Trump, Harris was selected as the Democratic contender.

She is the first Asian American, Black, and female vice president. Harris, 59, would be the first woman in history to hold the office of president of the United States if she were elected. The vice president is only the second woman to get a major political party presidential nomination.

In Telangana, an 11-day Maha Yagnam was held earlier to celebrate Kamala Harris’s win in the US presidential election.
The founder of the Shyamala Gopalan Educational Foundation, Nalla Suresh Reddy, told ANI that Goddess has heard everyone’s opinions and that they are hopeful that Kamala Harris would win and become the first female president of the United States.
