Lucknow – The Department of Anthropology at National PG College celebrated World Anthropology Day under the inspiration of Principal Prof. Devendra Kumar Singh and the guidance of Head of Department Dr. Preeti Singh. The day, observed annually on the third Thursday of February, was marked by various engaging events.
As part of the celebrations, students and faculty members enjoyed a documentary film, Tiger Boy – The Story of Chendru, screened digitally. The film highlighted the coexistence of humans and wildlife, inspiring the audience to maintain a harmonious relationship with nature.
On this occasion, Principal Prof. Singh stated, “Today, we strive to understand the deep connections between humanity, society, and science. This day reminds us that science is not limited to technological advancements but influences every aspect of society. Anthropology aims to study different facets of society, such as culture, language, and communities, helping us build a better world. We must all work together to contribute to humanity’s progress through science.”
A quiz competition on anthropology was also organized, in which a large number of students participated enthusiastically, showcasing their knowledge and skills. Additionally, department students exhibited models related to various branches of anthropology, covering significant topics such as human evolution, the Indus Valley Civilization, the genealogy of the Maurya Empire, the diversity of Indian tribes, prehistoric tools, and the importance of public health.
Addressing the students, Dr. Preeti Singh announced that the department is set to launch a quarterly Forensic Certificate Course this academic session. Applications for enrollment have been invited, with the course open to individuals from any academic stream who have passed their 12th grade, regardless of age. The course is available at an affordable fee of INR 5000.
The celebration successfully promoted the significance of anthropology and its role in understanding human societies, encouraging students to engage with the subject in meaningful ways.
