Gonda: Uttar Pradesh State Women Commission Vice-Chairperson Charu Chaudhary, who holds the rank of a Minister of State, on Thursday undertook a comprehensive visit to Gonda, reviewing women-related grievances, interacting with girl students, inspecting an Anganwadi centre and assessing facilities at the district women’s hospital.
During a women’s public hearing organised at the Circuit House, 13 complaints were received. Taking serious note of the grievances, Chaudhary directed the concerned officials to ensure prompt and sensitive action in each case.
She said providing timely justice and necessary assistance to women facing harassment and other forms of abuse remains a priority of the State Women Commission. She also stressed the importance of making women aware of their legal rights and various welfare schemes being implemented by the government so that they can access the support available to them.
Following the public hearing, District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan met Chaudhary at the Circuit House and welcomed her. The two officials discussed various issues concerning women and measures being undertaken for their welfare and protection.
Anganwadi Centre Inspection
During her visit, Chaudhary inspected an Anganwadi centre in Gohanna village of the Mankapur area. She reviewed the functioning of the centre and also participated in a traditional God Bharai ceremony organised for an expectant mother.
The visit focused on assessing the delivery of government welfare services at the grassroots level and reinforcing initiatives aimed at supporting women and children.
Interaction with Girl Students
Chaudhary later visited Saraswati Devi Nari Gyan Sthali Mahavidyalaya in Gonda, where she inaugurated the programme by lighting a ceremonial lamp and interacted with girl students.
Through the college programme and an awareness initiative conducted with Radio 98.6 FM, she discussed education, safety, women’s rights and government welfare schemes.
Addressing the students, Chaudhary said girls are the foundation of a bright future for society and the country. She emphasised that ensuring access to quality education, a safe environment and equal opportunities for advancement is a collective responsibility.
She encouraged students to remain aware of their rights and make informed use of government schemes designed to support women and girls.
‘Kanya Janmotsav’ at District Women’s Hospital
The State Women Commission Vice-Chairperson also inspected the District Women’s Hospital and reviewed the healthcare facilities and arrangements available there.
During the visit, a Kanya Janmotsav was organised to celebrate the birth of a newborn girl. Chaudhary marked the occasion by having the newborn baby girl cut a cake and extended her wishes for the child’s healthy and bright future.
She also issued necessary directions to the concerned officials regarding healthcare services and other arrangements at the hospital.
The visit brought together officials from several departments, including District Probation Officer Gaurav Mishra, District Social Welfare Officer S.P. Singh, District Basic Education Officer Amit Kumar Singh, Women Police Station Station House Officer Anita Yadav, Protection Officer Chandramohan Verma, District Mission Coordinator Shivendra Srivastava, Centre Manager Chetna Singh, Gender Specialist Jyotsna Singh, Raj Kumar Arya and social worker Pankaj Rao.
The programme was aimed at strengthening coordination among departments dealing with women’s safety, welfare, education, healthcare and child protection, while ensuring that women and girls receive timely access to government support and services.
