Lucknow: The self-enumeration process for Census 2027 has officially begun in Uttar Pradesh, marking the start of one of the country’s largest administrative and data collection exercises. The initiative was formally launched after S. P. Goyal successfully submitted his details through the official online census portal on May 7.
The launch event was held in Lucknow, where senior officials emphasised the importance of public participation in the nationwide exercise aimed at strengthening governance and policy planning.
Speaking on the occasion, S. P. Goyal described the census as far more than a statistical exercise, calling it a crucial component of nation-building. He directed officials across all districts to conduct extensive awareness campaigns to encourage maximum participation in the self-enumeration process.
The Chief Secretary instructed authorities to organise special camps, outreach drives and public awareness programmes in villages, towns and urban centres so that citizens can clearly understand the online registration procedure and its significance.
He also emphasised the need to involve prominent members of society, including elected representatives, doctors, lawyers, traders and social workers, to motivate people to actively participate in the campaign.

Appealing directly to residents of Uttar Pradesh, S. P. Goyal urged citizens to contribute enthusiastically to the national exercise by submitting accurate information through the online platform. He said the self-enumeration facility allows people to complete the process from their homes, helping save time while improving the accuracy and efficiency of data collection.
Officials stated that the online self-enumeration window in Uttar Pradesh will remain open from May 7 to May 21. According to the administration, the use of digital systems will make data processing faster, more transparent and more effective compared to traditional methods.
The event was attended by several senior government officials, including S. V. S. Ranga Rao, who presented a commemorative memento to the Chief Secretary. Also present were Sheetal Verma, Vijay Vishwas Pant, Vishakh G and Gaurav Kumar, along with other senior administrative officers.
The Census 2027 self-enumeration initiative is expected to play a key role in improving demographic planning, public welfare schemes and governance strategies across the state and the country.
