New Delhi: Tania Sachdev, a classical dancer, extremely beautiful and having an understanding of Chanakya Niti, has been blessed by nature with all these qualities, that is why she is also called the glamour girl of Indian chess. This year 20 August  Tania celebrated her 38th birthday. ‘Beauty with brain’, this phrase fits Sachdev perfectly. The Indian women’s chess queen is an Indian chess player who holds the FIDE titles of International Master (IM) and Women Grandmaster (WGM). She is the two-time Indian Women’s Chess Champion in 2006 and 2007, Asian Women’s Chess Champion in 2007, three times in 2016, 2018 and 2019 and the current Commonwealth Women’s Chess Champion.

Won first international title at the age of 8

Born on 20 August 1986 in Delhi, Sachdev was introduced to the game at the age of 6 by her mother Anju. Her parents played an important role in making Tania a capable chess player. Tania won her first international title at the age of just 8. She was coached by KC Joshi in her early years. She won many competitions during her childhood. Her career successes also include becoming the Under-12 Indian Champion, Asian Under-14 Girls Champion in 2000 and winning a bronze medal in the World Youth Chess Championship in the girls’ Under-12 division in 1998.

In 2002, she  won the Asian Junior Girls Championship title in Maravilla. In 2005, Sachdev became the eighth Indian player to get the title of Women’s Grandmaster. In 2006 and 2007, Tania won the title of India’s National Women’s Premier Chess Championship. Apart from this, Tania won the Women’s Asian Chess Championship in Tehran in 2007 with 6½ points out of nine rounds.

Honored with Arjuna Award in 2009

She was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2009. In 2016, Sachdev won the Best Women’s Award at the Reykjavik Open and also won the title of Commonwealth Women’s Champion in Kalutara. In 2015, Sachdev won the silver medal in the Asian Continental Women’s Rapid Chess Championship. She has many more such big records to her name.

Apart from chess, Tania is very fond of dance, ramp walk, photoshoot. Apart from chess and presenter-commentator, this glamour girl is often in the news among fans for her beautiful pictures. Currently, she is seen on TV as a presenter-commentator explaining the nuances of chess and is also very active on social media. She has more than 1 lakh 60 thousand followers.
