Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee National Institute of Water and Sanitation and Arghyam Sign MoU to Develop Digital Public Infrastructure for WASH Sector
New Delhi: In a significant step towards digital transformation in the water and sanitation sector, the Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee National Institute of Water and Sanitation (SPM-NIWAS) and Arghyam have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector. This collaboration aligns with the Indian government’s vision to enhance water and sanitation service delivery through innovative digital solutions.
The agreement focuses on conceptualizing, designing, and implementing a robust digital ecosystem to support the flagship initiatives of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G). SPM-NIWAS will lead the execution, while Arghyam, a key knowledge partner, will provide expertise in technology-driven water governance.
Key Objectives of the Partnership
- Development of open APIs and interoperable solutions to facilitate data-driven decision-making.
- Strengthening state institutions to ensure efficient operation and maintenance of water assets.
- Creating participatory digital platforms to promote sustainable water management.
A Consultative Committee comprising representatives from SPM-NIWAS, the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), and Arghyam will oversee the project’s execution. The collaboration aims to build a resilient and participatory digital ecosystem to support effective water governance, ensure safe drinking water access, and drive sustainability in the sector.
This initiative is expected to accelerate digital transformation in WASH services, helping to achieve India’s broader goal of water security and improved sanitation for all.
