Lucknow: A two-day national Conference on “Sustainable Business Strategies for a Shared Future”was held at the School of Management Sciences , SMS Lucknow on 21st and 22nd February 2025, in collaboration with the Indian Society for Training & Development (ISTD) and the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA).
The conference brought together thought leaders, industry experts and academicians who discussed and deliberated on innovative strategies to integrate sustainability into business operations for long-term growth and societal impact.
The conference commenced with the ceremonial lamp lighting which was followed by theWelcome Address by Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Bhatnagar, Director, SMS Lucknow, who set the stage for meaningful discussions.In his address, he emphasized, “Sustainability is no longer an option; it is a necessity. This conference provides a platform for experts from diverse domains to share their experiences and strategies for building a more inclusive and sustainable business ecosystem.”
The Inaugural Session was graced by Sh R. Ramani Former Chief Secretary U.P. and Chairman IIPA (U.P. Chapter), along with Prof. Krishna Kumar Former Director IIM Khozikode, Prof. Virendra Kumar Mishra from BHU, Varanasi, Prof. Shruti Sharma Rana from TERI New Delhi senior dignitaries, and thought leaders from academia and industry.
In his address R. Ramani said that businesses today must integrate sustainable practices into their core strategies, ensuring long-term economic resilience while addressing environmental and social challenges.
Prof. Shruti highlighted that sustainable business strategies are the key to creating long-term value for stakeholders. She said “Organizations must shift from a profit-centric approach to a purpose-driven model that prioritizes people and the planet along with profitability.”
In his address Prof. Krishna Kumar stressed that “businesses that prioritize sustainability today will lead the markets of tomorrow, ensuring a balance between profitability and responsibility.”
Prof. V.K. Mishra from BHU emphasized the growing importance of sustainability in business models and highlighted how organizations must integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices to ensure long-term growth and impact.
Secretary and CEO, SMS Lucknow,Sharad Singhreiterated the institution’s commitment to sustainability and industry-academia collaboration. According to him “At SMS Lucknow, we believe that education is the foundation for transformative change. We look forward to continuing our efforts in bridging the gap between academia and industry for a more sustainable future.”
The Plenary Session featured experts deliberating on subjects like Sustainable Education, Sustainable Entrepreneurship, Sustainability in Fashion Industry, Strategic Decisions for a Sustainable Future, Sustainable Finance and Circular Economy. 70 Research Papers were presented by Academicians and Research Scholars from various parts of the country, during the Conference. The award for best research paper was given to Mr. Siva Subramanyam Emani.
The Valedictory Session on 22nd February was graced by Prof. Pavnesh Kumar, Professor IGNOU, New Delhi, Sh. Sudhanshu Mani G.M. (Retd.) Indian Railways. Prof. Ajai Prakash, Professor of Management University of Lucknow in his Valedictory Address said “Corporate sustainability is not just about compliance; it is about leadership and accountability. Every business, irrespective of its size, must take proactive steps in reducing its carbon footprint and promoting ethical governance.”
During the event Director General (Technical), SMS Lucknow, Prof. (Dr.) Bharat Raj Singh, Director (Admin) Dr. Jagdish Singh, Associate Director, Dr. Dharmendra Singh, Registrar,, Dean(Engineering), Dean Student Welfare, All HODs and Faculty members were present. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from academicians, researchers, corporate professionals, and students, all eager to explore the evolving landscape of sustainable business practices.
