SC CJI takes his first tough step

As soon as he took charge, CJI put a stay on this matter in the Supreme Court

New Delhi: Justice Sanjeev Khanna has come into action as soon as he took charge as the Chief Justice of India and has banned oral mention for urgent hearing of cases in the Supreme Court. Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna said  that oral mention will not be allowed for urgent listing of cases and hearing on them. Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna urged lawyers to send emails or written letters for urgent hearing of any matter. Usually lawyers mention their cases for urgent hearing before the CJI-led bench at the beginning of the day’s proceedings.

Reason for early hearing will have to be given – CJI

Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna said that now there will be no oral mention. It will be only in email or written slip/letter. Just give the reasons for the need for urgent hearing. The Chief Justice has outlined a citizen-centric agenda for judicial reforms and said that it is the constitutional duty of the judiciary to ensure easy access to justice and treat citizens equally regardless of their status.
