Lucknow | In the wake of a recent fire incident involving a high-speed sleeper bus on the Agra Expressway near Lucknow, the RTO Enforcement Department has launched a two-day technical and physical inspection campaign across major highway routes to ensure passenger safety and identify potential technical lapses behind such accidents.
Acting on directives from the RTO Enforcement Office, Lucknow, joint teams comprising Regional Inspector (Technical) and Public Transport Officer (PTO) are conducting comprehensive checks on buses parked at various locations, including the Teepinagar parking area.
On Wednesday, RTO Administration Officer Sanjay Kumar Tiwari and RTO Enforcement Officer Prabhat Pandey, along with divisional officers and inspectors, inspected several buses to verify compliance with prescribed safety standards.
Providing details of the operation, ARTO Enforcement Officer Rajeev Kumar Bansal informed that 36 buses have been inspected so far, out of which 30 were found compliant with safety norms. The remaining vehicles displayed critical deficiencies such as improperly placed or undersized emergency exit gates, absence of functional fire extinguishers, non-standard sleeper seat designs, and unauthorized body extensions.

Officials confirmed that for the buses found violating safety parameters, recommendations will be sent to their respective district and state registration authorities to revoke their fitness certificates. These vehicles will be required to undergo a fresh inspection before being cleared for operation again.
The inspection drive underscores the administration’s focus on enhancing road safety standards and ensuring that passenger transport vehicles operating on intercity and expressway routes are technically sound and compliant with all safety regulations.
