Bareilly: Gautam Shah, a student of Nihal Shyam Degree College, Bareilly, affiliated with Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, has created a new Uttar Pradesh state record at the 67th Uttar Pradesh Senior State Swimming Championship 2026.
The prestigious championship, organized by the Uttar Pradesh Swimming Association in Lucknow, witnessed outstanding performances from swimmers across the state. Competing in the 100-metre freestyle event, Gautam Shah delivered a remarkable performance, completing the race in 55.48 seconds and establishing a new state record.
The achievement has brought pride not only to Nihal Shyam Degree College but also to Bareilly district and the wider Rohilkhand region. Gautam is the son of Hemant Lal Shah and has emerged as one of the state’s most promising young swimmers through his record-breaking feat.
Congratulating the student on his success, Vice-Chancellor Professor K.P. Singh, Registrar Harish Chand, Controller of Examinations Sanjeev Kumar Singh, along with university officials, college management, faculty members and fellow students, expressed their happiness and extended their best wishes for his future endeavors.

The university expressed confidence that Gautam Shah would continue to excel in upcoming national and international competitions and bring further recognition to Uttar Pradesh and the institution through his sporting achievements.
