Lucknow: With the auspicious period of Jyeshtha Mangal set to begin from May 2, several prominent organisations in Lucknow have jointly appealed to citizens to organise clean, green, and plastic-free community feasts (bhandaras) during the traditional celebrations.
The appeal was led by groups including Swadeshi Jagran Manch, Akhil Bharatiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal, Laghu Udyog Bharati, Sanskriti Bharati, and the Mangalmaan Abhiyan.
Addressing the media, Sandeep Bansal, National President of Akhil Bharatiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal and former Uttar Pradesh minister, highlighted Lucknow’s centuries-old tradition of celebrating Bada Mangal, dedicated to Lord Hanuman. He noted that this year the city will observe eight major मंगल events, drawing attention not only from across India but also from international media.
Push for Clean and Organised Celebrations
Bansal urged organisers to ensure that all bhandaras are conducted in a hygienic and planned manner, with proper registration and prior intimation to district authorities. This, he said, would enable better coordination and support from the administration and the Mangalmaan Abhiyan.
Emphasising the spirit of devotion and service, he said both organisers and participants must treat the food as prasad and ensure it is not disrespected or wasted. He also stressed that maintaining cleanliness at distribution sites is the responsibility of organisers.
Ban on Plastic, Focus on Waste Management

The organisations strongly appealed for a complete ban on polythene and single-use plastic during the events. Instead, they encouraged the use of eco-friendly materials and proper waste disposal mechanisms.
Organisers were advised to arrange adequate dustbins and continuously encourage attendees not to litter roads with disposable plates or leftovers. The initiative aims to make the celebrations environmentally sustainable while preserving their cultural significance.
Collective Appeal by Stakeholders
Among those present during the appeal were Anupam Srivastava, Rita Mittal, Dr. Ramkumar Tiwari, and other representatives from various organisations.
The joint call underscores a growing emphasis on combining tradition with environmental responsibility, ensuring that Lucknow’s iconic Bada Mangal celebrations remain both spiritually enriching and environmentally conscious.
