Lucknow: The Department of Languages at Integral University successfully organised a two-day national conference titled “Reimagining India and Beyond: Narratives of Belonging, Diversity and Coexistence in Literature and Cinema” from April 29 to 30.
The conference brought together eminent scholars, academicians, researchers, and creative professionals from across the country in a hybrid format. It facilitated in-depth discussions on emerging narratives of identity, plurality, and cultural coexistence through interdisciplinary perspectives spanning literature, cinema, cultural studies, and translation studies.
Focus on Dialogue and Inclusivity
The event was graced by the Chancellor Prof. Syed Waseem Akhtar, who lauded the event and highlighted the transformative role of literature and cinema in fostering dialogue, inclusivity, and cultural understanding. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Furqan Qamar, along with distinguished academicians Prof. Mohammad Mubeen and Prof. Suresh Kumar Sharma, also shared their insights.
The programme commenced with a formal welcome by Head of Department Prof. H. M. Arif, followed by an inaugural address by Dr. Arshi Khan.

Key speakers, including Prof. Meenakshi Pahwa, Prof. Asim Siddiqui, Prof. Sami Rafiq, Prof. Aarti Nirmal, and Prof. Huma Yaqoob, enriched the discussions with perspectives on narrative structures, cinematic expression, and the interrelationship between literature and film.
A highlight of the event was an audio-visual presentation by postgraduate students, paying tribute to iconic global cinema personalities and creating a vibrant atmosphere for intellectual engagement.

Research Presentations and Recognition
Multiple technical sessions featured presentation of research papers covering diverse dimensions of literary and cinematic studies. These sessions strengthened academic collaboration and encouraged inclusive dialogue.
Outstanding presentations by Nafisa Naaz, Ehsanul Haq, and Mantasha Khatoon were recognised and awarded during the conference.

The conference concluded with an engaging valedictory session featuring inspiring addresses by eminent academicians. The event was coordinated by Dr. Arshi Khan, Dr. Zeba Rizvi, and Mohammad Adeel, with active support from faculty members and student coordinators.
The initiative aligned with global priorities such as quality education, gender equality, and inclusive institutions, echoing the principles of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by promoting harmony, tolerance, and intercultural dialogue.
