Lucknow: On October 2, 2024, the Uttar Pradesh Sports Department organized a vibrant walk race event at K.D. Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium, Lucknow, in celebration of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. The event, held under the auspices of the Regional Sports Office, featured a variety of competitions, including a 1 km walk race, a 5 km men’s walk race, and a 3 km women’s walk race.
Inauguration and Participation
The competition commenced with an inauguration ceremony led by Ajay Kumar Sethi, Principal of Guru Govind Singh Sports College and Regional Sports Officer of Lucknow, who flagged off the participants. A total of 90 male and 73 female athletes registered to take part in the races, showcasing a spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie among the participants.
Before the distribution of prizes, Ajay Kumar Sethi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by garlanding his portrait and encouraging the athletes to embody the values of peace, perseverance, and dedication that Gandhi represented.

The event was well-attended, with notable figures such as Rajesh Kumar Gaur, Ravikant Yadav, Anoop Yadav, Lata Chaudhary, Ashok Kumar, Halimuddin, and Syed Wasif Hussain Abdi also present, supporting the participants and reinforcing the community spirit.
The 1 km walk race and senior citizen walk race not only celebrated the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi but also encouraged fitness and community engagement among participants of all ages.
