‘Food Farmer’ Revant Himatsingka Advises: Read the Food Label, Not Just the Packaging

Practical tips for healthy eating shared at a nutrition awareness session by FICCI FLO Lucknow

Lucknow: In today’s fast-paced life, amidst the rising prevalence of lifestyle diseases, one habit stands out as crucial: reading the label before purchasing packaged food products. Carrying this very message, Revant Himatsingka—a nutrition awareness activist who has gained nationwide recognition as ‘Food Farmer’—visited the city on Saturday at the special invitation of FICCI FLO Lucknow. At a nutrition awareness session held at Hotel Taj, he taught members the essentials of becoming healthy and informed consumers.

During the event, organized under the leadership of FICCI FLO Lucknow Chairperson Simran Sahni, Himatsingka highlighted his popular campaign, ‘Label Padhega India’ (India Will Read Labels). He emphasized that a consumer’s decision should be based on the product’s nutrition label and ingredient list, rather than its attractive packaging or advertisements. He stated that if people cultivate the habit of reading food labels, the risk of obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and other lifestyle-related ailments could be significantly reduced.

In the session, he explained in simple terms how to identify added sugar, trans fats, saturated fats, sodium, and various food additives in food products, and which products are best avoided. Citing examples of several popular packaged food items, he noted that consumers are often misled by attractive claims, whereas the accurate information is actually available on the product label itself.

FICCI FLO Lucknow Chairperson Simran Sahni remarked that informed consumers play a vital role in building a healthy society. She noted that Himatsingka’s research-based presentation enlightened members about the reality behind various food-related myths and misleading marketing claims. The session went beyond merely providing information; it offered practical guidance on adopting a healthy lifestyle. The attendees participated enthusiastically and asked various questions, to which Revant Himatsingka provided simple and factual answers. Participants stated that, henceforth, when purchasing packaged food products, they would pay attention to nutritional facts rather than relying solely on brands or advertisements. Nikita Garg presided over the program. The awareness session concluded successfully thanks to her efficient coordination and support.
