Other World Environment Day Celebrations Include Symposium on Sustainable Mobility and Plantation Drive
Lucknow: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation launched “MyDidi”, the city’s first women only EV shuttle service operated exclusively by women riders for women passengers. The initiative marks a significant step towards promoting sustainable urban mobility, women’s empowerment, and safe last mile connectivity for metro commuters.
The service was inaugurated by Managing Director, UPMRC, Sushil Kumar, at Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station. Designed on the principle of “By Women, For Women”, MyDidi offers an affordable, safe, and environmentally friendly transportation option for women travelling to and from metro stations.
In its initial phase, the service will operate to and from :
Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station
IT College Metro Station
Bhoothnath Metro Station
and Krishna Nagar Metro Station.
Women passengers can avail pick up and drop facilities within a radius of 5 kilometres from these stations at a flat fare of ₹15 per ride. As a promotional offer, the service will be available free of cost for all women passengers from 5 June to 13 June 2026.
The first ride of the service was availed by Kiran , who became the inaugural passenger of this unique women centric mobility initiative.

Sushil Kumar said, “MyDidi is an exclusive EV Bike service for women to support their commute to and from Metro Stations. Many times, women have to depend on some family member to pick or drop them for their routine work but this service will help them plan their journey independently. It’s also very beneficial for women students and office goers who can now comfortable ride pillion on these ev scooties (bikes) for their commute to and from the metro stations. It’s a very safe system with Live GPS tracking and SOS facility. In the coming months, MyDidi bike service will be expanded to other metro stations as well. This will not only benefit the women passengers but also generate employment opportunities for women riders.”
As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, UPMRC also organised a symposium on Sustainable Mobility and Sustainable Living at Hazratganj Metro Station in association with Jan Shikshan Sansthan. The programme featured distinguished speakers including renowned environmentalist ‘Ped Wale Baba’ Acharya Chandra Bhushan Tiwari, Science and Environment communicator Dr. Nimish Kapoor, Regional Director, IGNOU, Dr. Kirti Vikram Singh, and Managing Director, UPMRC, Sushil Kumar.
The speakers highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable lifestyles, strengthening public transport usage, and encouraging collective action towards environmental conservation.
* The programme concluded with the distribution of Tulsi plants among guests and metro passengers as a symbolic gesture to promote environmental awareness and greener living.
A sapling plantation drive was also carried out at Transport Nagar Metro Depot, where metro officials and employees planted saplings within the depot premises.
