Launch of four important projects in IVRI

Bareilly: Deputy Director General (Animal Science), Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, Dr. Radhvendra Bhatta and Assistant Director General (Animal Science), Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, and Assistant Director General (Animal Science), Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, launched four important projects of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in IVRI at Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar in the presence of Institute Director Dr. Triveni Dutt, Joint Director, Research, Dr. S.K. Singh, Joint Director, Academics, Dr. S.K. Mendiratta, Joint Director, Extension Education, Dr. Rupsi Tiwari, Joint Director CADRAAD, Dr. Sohini Dey, Project Coordinator Dr. Premanshu Dandapat, Dr. Rajveer Singh Pawaiya, Dr. Praveen Kumar Gupta, Dr. Amarpal and other present department heads, scientists and students.

After this, an orientation program was also organized for the new students of V.V.S.C and B.Tech. The four important projects of Indian Council of Agricultural Research include Advanced Research Project on Dogs, Challenging and Emerging Diseases of Animals (AINP-CEDA) under All India Network Programme; One Health for Zoonotic Diseases (AINP-OHD) under All India Network Programme and Network Project for Livestock Health and Production through Genome Editing Technology.

Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Guest and Deputy Director General (Animal Science), Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, Dr. Radhavendra Bhatta, while congratulating the Director of the Institute, Dr. Triveni Dutt, said that today is an important and historic day because today four important projects of the nation have been launched.

A budget of about 80 crores has been proposed in these projects and more than 100 institutes of the country will participate in these projects. He said that today four major projects have been launched in which Advanced Research Project on Dogs is a very important project, apart from this, Challenging and Emerging Diseases of Animals (AINP-CEDA) under All India Network Programme; One Health for Zoonotic Diseases (AINP-OHZD) and Network Project for Livestock Health and Production through Genome Editing Technology under All India Network Programme will help in research, diagnosis and development of diagnostics for animal diseases.

Dr. Diwakar Hemadri, Assistant Director General (Animal Science), Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, in his address said that it is a matter of pride to join this institute, this institute is renowned in Asia and I am happy that I am also an alumnus of this institute. He said that these projects are very important because successful implementation of these projects will help us develop a state-of-the-art facility for research in specialized areas of management of infectious/non-infectious animal diseases as well as studying the epidemiology of emerging diseases, insights into host-pathogen interaction and pathogen biology, developing molecular methods for diagnosis and typing of emerging and challenging pathogens.

Institute Director Dr. Triveni Dutt said that this is a proud institute of veterinary science which has completed 135 years while carrying forward its ancient heritage. Looking at the infrastructure and experience of our institute, we have got the responsibility of coordinating these projects, for which I am thankful to the Director General and Deputy Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research who selected us for these projects. Dr. Dutt said that currently 161 research projects are being implemented in the institute and 5 international projects whose main focus is climate change. He said that the institute is a very rich port policy and many technologies have been developed by the institute which are being used in the livestock sector.

After this, an orientation program was also organized for the new students of B.V.S.C and B.Tech. Joint Director Academic Dr. S.K. Mendiratta said that this is the 7th batch of VBSC, in which there are eight payment sheets and two have been set for NRI students. Dr. Mendiratta said that the education hubs of the institute have been established in Bangalore and Hisar. He said that the Deputy Director General of Animal Science has supported the institute in every problem of the students and has made efforts for the students of the institute. He said that our UG education admissions have been completed and PG education will start from January.

The Joint Director of Extension Education of the institute, Dr. Roopsi Tiwari, while welcoming the chief guest and special guest present in the program, said that at present 41 students are studying in VBSC and a total of 226 students are studying, in addition to this 282 students are pursuing master’s degree. Addressing the new students, she said that the faculty here is very experienced and its environment is also very good.

Dr. Praveen Gupta also gave detailed information about the B.Tech Biotech program of the institute. On this occasion, Controller of Examinations, Dr. Gyanendra Singh told that the first batch of MVSc was started in 1985. He said that deemed universities and short courses are run. On this occasion, UG Coordinator Dr. Rajat Garg said that this year 60 B.V.Sc students have taken admission in the institute and till now 226 B.V.Sc students have passed out. He said that the duration of this course is five years and six months. He said that 70% attendance is mandatory to appear in the examination. On this occasion, Joint Director Research Dr. S.K. Singh, Joint Director Cadre Dr. Mohini Saini, Incharge PME Cell, Dr. G. Sai Kumar along with heads of various departments, scientific officers and employees were present.
