Lucknow: Lucknow Metro hosted the victorious Indian Kho-Kho team, winners of the 2025 World Cup, for a special metro ride. Captain of the Indian men’s Kho-Kho team, Pradeep Vyakar, and women’s team player, Nirmala Bhati, along with the Secretary-General of the Indian Kho-Kho Federation, M.S. Tyagi, traveled from Hazratganj to CCS Airport Metro Station. During the journey, they praised the cleanliness, artistic designs, and modern amenities at the metro stations.
India made history in January 2025 by clinching gold in both men’s and women’s categories in the inaugural Kho-Kho World Cup. The triumph placed India at the pinnacle of the sport, reinforcing its traditional roots and modern competitiveness on the global stage.
Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian men’s and women’s Kho-Kho teams for their stellar achievement in the first-ever international-level Kho-Kho World Cup. He remarked that Kho-Kho is an indigenous sport that has now gained international recognition through the dedication of these athletes. He also expressed optimism that Kho-Kho might be included in the 2036 Olympics.
On this occasion, UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar stated, “We are delighted to host the Indian Kho-Kho team in Lucknow Metro and showcase our world-class facilities. It is heartening to see that the players appreciated the cleanliness, modern infrastructure, and architectural beauty of the metro stations. We extend our best wishes to the Indian Kho-Kho team for their future endeavors.”
The presence of the world champions in Lucknow Metro not only highlighted the growing prominence of Kho-Kho but also celebrated the city’s advanced transport infrastructure, further strengthening its status as a hub of modern urban development.
