Strengthening bilateral ties and grassroots resilience in the Caribbean nation
Roseau (Dominica): In a significant step towards deepening development cooperation with the Caribbean region, India has signed five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Dominica to fund community-oriented Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) worth USD 250,000.
The MoUs were signed in the Dominican capital, Roseau, between Pradeep Rajpurohit, India’s High Commissioner to Dominica, and Vince Henderson, Dominica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade, and Energy.
The initiatives will focus on enhancing local infrastructure and improving public amenities. These include the restoration of farm access roads in Carholme, St. Elmo’s Estate (Upper Giraudel), and Macaton (Grand Bay), the construction of a pedestrian crossing at Fond St. Jean, and the renovation of the Grand Bay Basketball Court.
According to a statement by the High Commission of India in Trinidad and Tobago, which is also accredited to Dominica, the projects are part of India’s commitment to sustainable development and people-centric diplomacy.

“India remains steadfast in its endeavor to extend developmental assistance to the people of the Commonwealth of Dominica and extends best wishes to them on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the country’s independence,” the statement read.
India and Dominica have shared friendly bilateral relations since 1981. Over the years, India has supported several reconstruction and resilience projects in Dominica under the India-UNDP Fund. Notably, the $1 million rehabilitation of the Salisbury Educational Facility (completed in 2020) and the $1 million “Strengthening Sustainable Livelihoods and Resilience in the Kalinago Community” project (2021–2024) stand out as flagship examples of this partnership.
The ongoing second phase of the Community Resilience initiative in the Kalinago Territory, launched in December 2024 with another $1 million grant, continues to reinforce India’s long-term vision of empowering local communities through sustainable infrastructure and social development.
With these latest QIPs, India reaffirms its position as a reliable development partner in the Caribbean, fostering friendship through inclusive growth and grassroots impact.
