In Sangam City,  Quick Action by UP Police Averts Major Tragedy

Prayagraj: On the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya during the Mahakumbh, millions of devotees thronged the Sangam in Prayagraj from midnight onwards. Many pilgrims had arrived a day earlier, leading to overcrowding and near-chaotic conditions at the ghats. Eyewitnesses reported that the immense pressure of the crowd created a stampede-like situation. However, the swift response by the Uttar Pradesh Police and administrative forces effectively brought the situation under control, showcasing the professionalism of the UP Police Force.

A pilgrim caught in the chaos remarked, “The police personnel appeared as saviors for us. Without their intervention, the loss of lives could have been catastrophic.”

Crowd Managed with Ropes and Effective Coordination

The overwhelming number of devotees at the Sangam during Mauni Amavasya posed significant challenges. In the midst of the Amrit Snan celebrations, a stampede-like situation unfolded late at night. Acting promptly, the police and RAF personnel managed the crowd by using ropes to create organized pathways. Senior police officials, including IG Prem Kumar and Mela SSP Rajesh Dwivedi, arrived at the scene and directed the flow of pilgrims to alternative routes, ensuring their safety and smooth dispersal.

Pre-Preparedness and Rehearsals Paid Off

Eyewitnesses credited the police for their timely intervention. The rapid response was attributed to prior rehearsals and well-planned strategies. Police personnel efficiently established green corridors, facilitating the swift movement of ambulances to transport injured pilgrims to hospitals.
