New Delhi: The 52nd G7 Summit has begun in Évian-les-Bains, France, bringing together leaders of the world’s major advanced economies along with several invited partner nations, including India. The three-day summit, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, will continue until June 17.
The G7 grouping includes France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Canada, along with the European Union. Leaders from invited countries such as India, Brazil, Kenya, and South Korea are also attending this year’s discussions.
India is participating as a partner country for the 13th time, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending the summit for the seventh consecutive year.
Focus on global stability and economic challenges
This year’s summit comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty. France has positioned the meeting around rebuilding global cooperation and strengthening international partnerships.
Discussions are expected to cover a wide range of pressing global issues, including the ongoing war in Ukraine, security concerns in Europe, and the broader stability of international alliances supporting Kyiv.
The situation in West Asia, including tensions involving Iran and concerns over maritime security in key global shipping routes, is also likely to feature prominently in deliberations.

Economic growth, trade and supply chains on agenda
Global economic challenges are another major focus, with leaders expected to examine trade tensions, supply chain vulnerabilities, and widening economic imbalances. The need for more inclusive and sustainable growth is likely to be highlighted amid ongoing global instability.
China’s economic practices and their impact on global trade are also expected to be part of the discussions, particularly in relation to industrial overcapacity and export pressures.
Artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in spotlight
Artificial intelligence is set to be one of the key themes of this year’s summit. Leaders are expected to explore frameworks for AI governance, international standards, and cooperation on emerging technologies to ensure safe and responsible development.
Climate change, global energy security, and stronger engagement with developing countries are also expected to feature in the summit agenda.
India, according to officials, is expected to use the platform to highlight the priorities and concerns of the Global South, reinforcing its role as a key voice among emerging economies in global decision-making.
