Folk Dance and Patriotic Song Activities Celebrate India’s Cultural Heritage at Rohilkhand University’s Dikshotsav

Bareilly: As part of the 24th Convocation celebrations, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU), Bareilly, organised folk dance and patriotic song activities in schools located in villages adopted by the university under its ongoing Dikshotsav programme. The activities are being held from July 1 to 15, 2026, under the inspiration of Chancellor and Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh.

The initiative forms part of a series of educational and cultural programmes designed to promote holistic development among rural students while fostering an appreciation for India’s rich cultural traditions.

In his message, Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh said the activities were aimed at nurturing respect for Indian folk culture, traditional art forms and the nation’s cultural heritage. He noted that such programmes help strengthen students’ sense of patriotism while developing self-confidence, teamwork, discipline and stage presentation skills.

He emphasised that folk dances, folk songs, patriotic songs and poetry are integral to India’s cultural identity and play a vital role in connecting the younger generation with their roots. These artistic expressions, he said, also promote national integration and cultural harmony.

Cultural Coordinator Dr. Jyoti Pandey explained that the folk dance and patriotic song sessions were organised as non-competitive activities. Unlike the ongoing contests, these events were intended to provide students with a refreshing break from regular academic and competitive schedules, offering them an opportunity for relaxation, entertainment and creative expression.

Students captivated audiences with colourful performances showcasing India’s diverse folk traditions and cultural heritage. Their spirited renditions of patriotic songs created an atmosphere of national pride and enthusiasm across participating schools.

The successful organisation of the activities was supported by Registrar Mahendra Kumar, Dr. Jyoti Pandey, members of the university’s cultural committee, school principals, teachers and students, whose collective efforts ensured the success of the programme.

The Dikshotsav celebrations continue to serve as a platform for encouraging artistic expression, preserving India’s cultural legacy and inspiring students to develop a deeper appreciation of the country’s rich and diverse traditions.
