Dr. Prabodh Kumar Trivedi Assumes Charge as Director of CSIR-CIMAP, Dr. Zabeer Ahmed Relieved of Additional Responsibility

Lucknow: Eminent scientist Prabodh Kumar Trivedi has formally assumed charge as Director of CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP), Lucknow, with effect from May 7, 2026.

A distinguished figure in the field of plant molecular biology and biotechnology, Dr. Trivedi is a Fellow of all four major Indian science academies — the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), Indian Academy of Sciences (IAS), National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), and National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS). He is also a J.C. Bose National Fellow.

Dr. Trivedi is widely recognised for his significant contributions to plant molecular biology and biotechnology. During his earlier tenure as Director from February 2020 to February 2026, the institute achieved notable progress across multiple research domains and played a key role in CSIR’s flagship “Aroma Mission.” Research initiatives undertaken under his leadership also received recognition through the “National Science Award-2025.”

His appointment is expected to further strengthen research, innovation and technology-driven activities in the field of medicinal and aromatic plants, while accelerating the institute’s scientific and industrial outreach.

Prior to Dr. Trivedi’s appointment,Dr.  Zabeer Ahmed, Director of CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Jammu, was holding additional charge as Director of CSIR-CIMAP.

Dr. Ahmed had taken over the interim responsibility on February 14, 2026, to ensure continuity in leadership and smooth functioning of ongoing scientific programmes at the institute. During his tenure as additional director, he successfully guided several important scientific and applied research initiatives of the organisation.

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-CIMAP is one of the premier national laboratories under CSIR, dedicated to research and development in medicinal and aromatic plants.
