Lucknow: Defence materials, weapons and equipment retired from the Indian Army are set to be displayed for the public at five key sites developed by the Uttar Pradesh Tourism and Culture Department. Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said that placing the equipment at prominent locations will inspire people with the pride, valour and courage of the armed forces.
Proposal sent to the Defence Ministry
The minister said on Monday that he had written to the Union Ministry of Defence on July 4, 2026, proposing that decommissioned equipment be placed at important sites developed by the department. The Defence Ministry has responded by asking the state to complete certain formalities, and the state government is now taking follow-up action.
Proposed sites
The sites named in the request are:
- Samaur Baba Dham, Karhara, Firozabad district
- Rashtra Prerna Sthal, Lucknow
- War Memorial Park, Cantonment, Varanasi
- Gaurav Museum, Gorakhpur
- Cultural Centre, Mainpuri district
Directions to officials
The state government has directed the Joint Directors of Tourism in Lucknow, Varanasi and Gorakhpur to take the necessary steps immediately for the institutions and tourist sites concerned, and to report to the government through the Director General of Tourism. The Regional Tourism Officer of Agra division has likewise been asked to act at once on the points raised in the Government of India’s letter for the sites in his area.
