Haridwar – In a shocking revelation, Haridwar Police have cracked a high-profile theft case involving a daughter, her husband, and brother-in-law who conspired to steal from the woman’s own father. The police have arrested all three accused and recovered Rs 59.60 lakh in cash, a large quantity of jewellery, food supplement containers, and the i20 car used in the crime.
The case came to light when Sarwar, a resident of Ambar Talab in Ganganhar Kotwali area, reported to the police that around Rs 90 lakh in cash and valuables had been stolen from his old house. Investigations soon revealed that the culprits were none other than his own daughter and son-in-law.
Acting on the complaint, a joint team of the Ganganhar police and Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU), Roorkee, led by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Haridwar, apprehended the three accused. During interrogation, it was revealed that the woman had married Azim, a gym trainer, in 2023 against her family’s wishes after divorcing her first husband.
Azim’s health supplement business was in deep financial trouble, with heavy debts mounting. During this time, the woman learned that her father had recently sold a warehouse and was keeping a large sum of money hidden under a slab on the first floor of their old house.
In a well-planned move, the woman stole the key to the old house and handed it over to her husband. Azim then broke into the property, retrieved a bag full of cash, and fled the scene in his car. He later handed a part of the stolen money to his brother, Wasim, for safekeeping, while hiding the remaining amount in their rented apartment in Satti Mohalla.
Based on the statements of the accused, the police recovered Rs 48 lakh in cash and jewellery from the rented flat and the getaway car near a cremation ground. Following Wasim’s arrest, Rs 10 lakh in cash and several food supplement boxes were also seized from his shop.
