Although there are many stories related to the festival of Raksha Bandhan, but some tales have regaled the revelers for good.

Raksha Bandhan of Krishna and Draupadi

There is a quote in the Mahabharata that after killing Shishupal, when the Sudarshan Chakra returned to sit on Krishna’s finger, it also caused a slight injury on Krishna’s wrist due to which blood started flowing. Draupadi immediately tore the pallu of her saree and tied it on Krishna’s wrist. Krishna thanked her and promised that he would always protect her.

The story of Rani Karnavati and Humayun

After the death of her husband Rana Sanga, the command of Mewar was in the hands of Rani Karnavati. At that time, Bahadur Shah of Gujarat had invaded Mewar for the second time. Karnavati then sent a Rakhi to Humayun to ask for his help. Humayun was in the middle of a war at that time, but the Rani’s gesture touched him deeply. Humayun immediately sent his army to Mewar. Unfortunately, his soldiers could not reach on time and the Rajput army was defeated in Chittor. The Rani committed Jauhar (set herself on fire) to protect her honour. But Humayun’s army drove Shah out of Chittor and handed over the throne to the queen’s son Vikramjit and respected their Rakhi.

Raja Bali and Maa Lakshmi

Lord Vishnu disguised himself as a Brahmin and reached the Yagya and asked King Bali for three steps of land as donation. The king accepted the Brahmin’s demand. The Brahmin measured the entire land in his first step and the entire sky in his second step. King Bali understood that God was testing him, so he immediately placed the Brahmin’s third step on his head. He said that now I have lost everything. Now you accept my request and come with me to the netherworld and live there. God had to agree to the king.

Mother Lakshmi disguised herself as a poor woman and reached King Bali and tied a Rakhi to him. The king asked her to ask for anything in return for the rakhi. Maa Lakshmi immediately came in her real form and asked the king to return her husband Lord Vishnu. Keeping the respect of the rakhi, the king sent Lord Vishnu back with Maa Lakshmi.

Rakhi of Devraj Indra and Indrani

It is believed that once the demon Vritrasura attacked heaven to capture Indra’s throne. Vritrasura was very powerful and it was not easy to defeat him. To protect Devraj Indra in the war, his sister Indrani prepared a Raksha Sutra with her spiritual power and tied it on Indra’s wrist. This Raksha Sutra protected Indra and he won the war.

 Yudhishthira tied Rakhi to his soldiers

During the Mahabharata war, Yudhishthira asked Shri Krishna that how can I overcome all the difficulties. Suggest a solution for this. Shri Krishna asked Yudhishthira to tie Raksha Sutra to all his soldiers. Yudhishthira did the same and tied Raksha Sutra to everyone in his entire army. Yudhishthira’s army was victorious in the war.
