Bahraich – Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s flagship One District, One Product (ODOP) scheme has begun to show tangible results in Bahraich district, significantly enhancing the income of local farmers. In a recent development, yoga guru Swami Ramdev’s company has stepped forward to procure turmeric from Bahraich for use in the production of Ayurvedic medicines. The district’s high-quality turmeric has steadily gained demand due to its superior standards.
Strategic Partnership: MoU Signed Between Bahraich’s FPOs and Swami Ramdev’s Company
According to Bahraich District Magistrate Monika Rani, the district administration, following the vision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has been making consistent efforts to give local products a global platform and improve farmers’ incomes. Under this initiative, 86 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) have been formed in the district.
In a significant move, three major FPOs in Bahraich recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Swami Ramdev’s company. The FPOs involved in this partnership are:
- Pratyush Bioenergy Farmer Producer Company Limited
- Veerangana Laxmibai Mahila Kisan Producer Company Limited
- CSC Raj Kisan Producer Company Limited
The MoU signing ceremony witnessed the presence of Swami Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna, District Magistrate Monika Rani, Deputy Director of Agriculture TP Shahi, and other officials.
Annual Procurement Target: 50,000 Tons of Turmeric
District Magistrate Monika Rani emphasized that Bahraich’s Mihipurwa region, with its fertile land and favorable climate, is highly suitable for agriculture. While turmeric, yam (Jimikand), and green vegetables thrive in the area, farmers previously struggled to secure fair prices for their produce.
Under the MoU, Swami Ramdev’s company will procure approximately 45,000–50,000 tons of turmeric annually from Bahraich. To meet this target, turmeric will be cultivated across nearly 2,000 hectares of land. This initiative promises fair pricing for farmers and a significant boost to their incomes.
Agricultural Landscape in Bahraich
Deputy Agriculture Director TP Shahi outlined the agricultural output in Bahraich:
- Turmeric Production: Engages 1,880 male and 975 female farmers.
- Yam Cultivation: Spread across 150 hectares, yielding 5,250 tons annually.
- Green Vegetables: Grown on approximately 600 hectares, with high demand in local and national markets.
Impact of ODOP Scheme
Bahraich’s turmeric, now prominently featured under the ODOP scheme, is set to achieve greater recognition in both domestic and international markets. The partnership with Swami Ramdev’s company is a transformative step, ensuring better pricing and expanded market access for local farmers.
A Brighter Future for Farmers
CM Yogi Adityanath’s vision for ODOP continues to bring prosperity to districts like Bahraich. With strategic partnerships and initiatives, Bahraich’s farmers are witnessing a new era of growth, promising a sustainable livelihood and a global identity for their products.
