Educational programme on “Obstructive Sleep Apnea Management” held at RMLIMS
Lucknow: On the occasion of National Orthodontist Day (celebrated every year on October 5), the Department of Dentistry at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Lucknow, organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on “Management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)”.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. C.M. Singh, Director of RMLIMS, who emphasized the need for greater public awareness and timely management of OSA. “This disorder not only affects individuals but also has a significant social and public health impact. Awareness and proper treatment are essential to curb its rising prevalence,” he said.
Prof. Vikram Singh, CMS of RMLIMS, also shared his insights, highlighting the serious social and health implications associated with untreated sleep apnea.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Hemant Agrawal, delivered an informative lecture on diagnostic advancements and modern treatment approaches for Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

Dr. Taruni Lalchandani, ENT specialist, discussed in detail the various surgical interventions available for managing severe OSA cases.
Programme Chairperson and Head of the Department of Dentistry, Prof. Dr. Shaili Mahajan, underlined the crucial role of dentists in OSA management, explaining that early diagnosis and orthodontic appliances can significantly aid in airway correction through growth modification.
Meanwhile, Dr. Padmanidhi Agrawal elaborated on how maxillofacial surgery can help improve airway structures and alleviate symptoms in patients suffering from OSA.
The session witnessed active participation from faculty members, MBBS students, nursing staff, and senior educators, reflecting a shared commitment to raising awareness about sleep disorders and interdisciplinary collaboration in their treatment.
